Measuring your window accurately is crucial when ordering eyelet curtains to ensure they fit properly. Here are the steps to measure your window for eyelet curtains:
Gather the necessary tools: You will need a tape measure and a pen or pencil to mark your measurements.
Already have a pole?
Measure the width of the pole between any decorative finials or end caps.
No pole in place?
Determine the curtain rod placement: Decide where you want to install the curtain rod. Typically, the rod is positioned above the window frame, but you can choose a higher placement to create the illusion of taller windows or to allow more natural light to enter the room.
Start by measuring the width of your window. Measure the width of the rod from end to end. For eyelet curtains, it's best to include the rod's finials (decorative ends) in your measurement if you plan to keep them on when hanging the curtains.
Determine the desired fullness: Decide how full you want your curtains to appear. For a standard look, multiply the width measurement by 1.5 to 2. This will ensure that the curtains have enough fabric to create attractive pleats when they are drawn closed.
Multiply the width measurement by the desired fullness factor (1.5 to 2) to determine the final width of your curtains. Round the number to the nearest whole or half an inch for accuracy.
Next, measure the desired length of your curtains. Decide whether you want the curtains to hang just below the window sill, to the floor, or somewhere in between. Measure from the rod's top to the desired length, ensuring the tape measure hangs straight.
Add extra length if needed: If you want your curtains to pool on the floor for a luxurious look, add an additional 2 to 4 inches to the measured length.
Repeat for multiple windows: If you have multiple windows, repeat the above steps for each window, as window sizes may vary.
When measuring your curtain length for Eyelet sheers we advise you to measure from the top of your curtain pole to where you want the curtain to fall, this drop measurement is called ‘The Eyelet Drop’
If you provide us with the eyelet drop we will add the following measurements as standard:
25mm Eyelet: 3cm + 1cm for the eyelet
40mm Eyelet: 2cm + 1cm for the eyelet
The above measurements will be added as the stand-up above the eyelet, please ensure you have enough room above your pole to allow for this. Bespoke stand-ups are available, so please let us know how much fabric you would like above the eyelet.
If you have an existing curtain that you are replacing you can provide us with the ‘Overall drop’ and measure from the very top of the curtain to the bottom.
Please note: Eyelet curtains can only be used on a curtain pole.
Double-check measurements: Once you have your measurements, double-check them to ensure accuracy before placing an order for eyelet curtains.
By following these steps and taking accurate measurements, you'll be able to order eyelet curtains that fit your windows perfectly, creating a stylish and functional addition to your home decor.
