How to Hang Net & Voile Curtains – A Guide to Net Curtain Wire & More!

What is Net Wire, Hooks & Eyes

Net wire, hooks, and eyes are essential components used to hang lightweight curtains like nets and voiles. Net wire is a flexible, thin, and often plastic-coated wire designed to hold curtains securely across a window frame. It’s durable yet discreet, making it ideal for creating a seamless look. Hooks and eyes are small metal or plastic fittings used to attach the wire to the window frame or surrounding area. The hooks are screwed or adhered into place, while the eyes are threaded onto the ends of the net wire to anchor it securely. Together, they form a simple yet effective system for hanging delicate curtains with ease.

Is Net Wire, Hooks & Eyes Right for You?

If your curtain has a slot top heading, net wire with hooks and eyes is an excellent choice! Despite the name, net wire works equally well for both net and voile curtains. It’s specifically designed for lightweight curtains, as heavier fabrics can cause the wire to sag over time.

When it comes to your window frames, using net wire does require some drilling. This makes it a great option for wooden frames, where drilling is straightforward and hassle- free. While it’s possible to drill into PVC window frames, it’s important to proceed with caution—doing so might void the warranty on some types of PVC windows. Always check with your manufacturer if you’re unsure.

For those looking for a simple, discreet, and effective way to hang lightweight curtains, net wire combined with hooks and eyes is a tried-and-true solution.

How To Hang Curtains with Wire:

In 5 easy steps!

What You Will Need:

To make things easier, at Net Curtains Direct, we offer separate hooks, eyes and net wire by the metre or in convenient packs suit a variety of needs, depending on how many curtains you are hanging!

Step 1:

Locate the end of the net curtain wire and securely insert the curtain eye by twisting it clockwise until it feels tight.

Step 2:

Next, prepare your drill by inserting the drill bit so that approximately 7mm is exposed, with the rest securely inside the drill. This setup helps prevent accidental damage to your window frame. Once ready, drill a pilot hole in the top right-hand corner of your window frame. Then, carefully screw the hook into the hole by twisting it clockwise until it is secure.

Step 3:

Once the hook is securely installed, attach the wire (with the eye already connected) to the hook. Stretch the wire across to the other side of the window to measure the total length. Since net wire is quite stretchy, we recommend cutting the wire with pliers to be approximately 10% shorter than the stretched measurement. This will help prevent the curtain from sagging once it’s hung!

Step 4:

Next, twist the second eye onto the other end of the wire, repeating Step 1. Then, stretch the wire and eye over to the second hook. Follow Step 2 to install the second hook securely. If you want additional support for your curtain, feel free to add a third hook in the centre of the frame for extra stability and straightness!

Step 5:

Now that your wire is properly measured and hanging, the final step is to remove it from the window and feed the wire through the slot top heading of your curtain. Always use the eyes for this step instead of the hooks to prevent any snagging of the fabric. Once the wire is through, re-hang it with the curtain attached for a perfectly hung curtain!
